Traditional Independence and the Two Party System

At 57 years of age, I have come into a better understanding of what seems to me a desirable feature of government in the United States of America. Considering that we are each and all sinful creatures, I now understand that I do not even WANT any one political party to win governance FOREVER. GOD Bless the separation of Church and State! What we do have active and alive in the United States of America in 2008 or 5769 as you may prefer is a unique vitality I am now understanding as the Two Party System. What all citizens get to enjoy soon enough is toppling the statue of Old King George - a challenging aspect of the Patriot endeavor. What a gift from my GOD to find that "the King is dead; long live the King" need not mean fighting in the streets! In the United States of America we have actually inherited a tradition of institutionalized 1776. Election 2008 has demonstrated that the Democratic Party held to nearly illegal status during the Bush Administration can – as surely as GOD Allowed the world Berlin 1945 – topple old King George’s statue despite unprecedented posturing by the most mean spirited coterie of god’schosenpeoplebrandpoliticoes ever to face this honor-student-who-can’t-beat-up your football hero! Yes, I am a Bush Administration Orderly Citizen. Legally, Bush is still President as I write – not Obama. Drive 25 – keep kids alive! Obey the law! Let us all now obey the law! Perhaps, I am thinking, GOD the real GOD does actually Bless and Protect this Nation NOT even considering – just for today – ye olde ripping up the Constitution. I am relieved. General Washington was not a traitor.

What I do see today, friends, is a population with much at stake in avoiding Totalitarianism. Personally, I do not want a Totalitarian Democratic Party AND I do not want a Totalitarian Republican Party. And what is more – just for today – I do NOT suffer either! As I approach my Independent perspective, I embrace a Two Party System. This option is even more poignant in our emerging digital age of binary choices.

What I theorize is this. Before us we have a Democratic Party and a Republican Party. I do not want either Party to win its carnal goals! Let both Parties store up treasures in Heaven. True Believers of each party will undoubtedly plan an Armageddon victory as ever. BUT, friends, GOD IS on our side and He does have a sense of humor! What we Independents have is a sublime continuum. With a Democratic victory, each voter gets to run for the roses in an era – four years for the new King George – of making new agreements person to person. What can we agree upon, people? This seems to me to be a primary characteristic of the Democratic Party. In an era of Democratic Party ascendency, all citizens – Republican OR Democrat – face options to make new person-to-person agreements, to approach new meetings. Such meetings will define project purpose, generate thoughts, words, and behaviors that will in time have a predictable outcome. For Democrats, NOW is the time to avoid corruption, sin, disingenuous words, and all the seven deadly sins which will surely wreck any old party any old time. Of course, each of us does something wrong repeatedly. But for the Grace of GOD, there would be no Two Party System. Do know this, Democratic Administration: as surely as we all sin and fall short regarding graceful realization of promises, just as surely will come the next Republican administration. However - now at 57 years of age I see it for the first time - this is GOOD! We are all, Republicans and Democrats alike, DEEPLY FLAWED INDIVIDUALS. In this respect there is no other show in town, people. BUT, we also have some pretty good Gifts and a GOD Who does save sinners. In the United States of America in 2008 – 5769 if you prefer – we still have Democrats to save us from Republicans and Republicans to save us from Democrats. I remember personally when the Democrats of the 1970s began to smell like so many Post Toasties and were about as bewitching as decadents competing boastfully as to who loves death more and cares less. Surely, Republicans needed little other than to wake up sober on Election Day to win the Reagan victory. GOD knows, Democrats were burnt with self-serving hedonism and the most ungodly and hypocritical elitism - hardly on stage one dreaming idealistic dream. Not for public consumption, that!

Now we have the day after the farthest-reaching excesses of the very Republicans who ousted the old Democratic King George. While the Democrats perhaps give leave to meet the people and to make new and potentially useful interpersonal arrangements, Republicans can take up government on the basis of the very architecture of State, the ONE edifice of the American Republic. Not so much by meeting person to person but yet an outgrowth of previous meetings and agreements made during the preceding Democratic administration. Today’s words and behaviors generate tomorrow’s outcomes and imperatives. People, whenever one Party is waking up with a hangover morning after morning it is Mercy Itself to topple again the statue of old King George and let the lame duck brigade sober up. The continuum of the Two Party System saves us from disaster and even from failure itself, by the Grace of GOD. Says here, we don’t actually get to COMPLETE our ever energetic building of the Tower of Babel. Not the Republicans, not the Democrats… But if I can give an inch – and NOT yield my last battle but to GOD – then I will have a little of what I DO dearly want. And this not just a little, but indeed, “good measure, pressed down, and overflowing.”
